During the course an unusual commuting day on Friday, I had the opportunity to stand under three mighty New York bridges. Above is the Brooklyn Bridge, which spans the East River and connects Brooklyn to lower Manhattan.

The venerable Manhattan Bridge spans the East River and connects Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The Verrazanno Bridge spans the Narrows at the mouth of New York Harbor and connects Brooklyn to Staten Island. At the start of the New York City marathon each year, runners cross this span beginning the first mile in running over water (so to speak). The photo was taken from the Brooklyn side.

Are these birds waiting for the bus to Fort Wadsworth?

Why don't they just fly?
